Northeast Louisiana ARES/RACES/Skywarn - Guestbook

ARES
is currently monitoring "Hurricane Clotile" and will activate
at 9 a.m.on
Saturday morning

All
ARES/Skywarn members should take action now to prepare for
this activation. Please respond to this message as soon
as possible and advise of your availability ( If you will
or will not be able to participate) and contact information
for Saturday morning if you have not already done so.
ARES
in Region 8 will activate at the Ouachita Parish EOC ( WA5WX
) beginning Saturday morning at 9 a.m. CDT
Duties/Needs
for Volunteers include:
- Backup
net control operators with the ability to operate on emergency
power from home.
- Field
Communicators to support shelters sites and/or other field
locations Skywarn
- Storm
spotters for a likely skywarn activation.

Notes:
- In
the event that local repeaters in Ouachita Parish are
unavailable, we will coordinate on 146.520 then move operations
to 146.550 if necessary.
- The
Louisiana ARES Net Emergency Frequencies are: 3.873 &
7.285 ( Please do not check in to the LA ARES Net net
unless you have emergency traffic and/or can assist with
a emergency traffic relay )

Amateur
Radio Study Class Technician Class October 9th - 10th
On October 9- 10, 2009, the NELA ARES Foundation will sponsor
a 2 day Introduction to Amateur Radio Study class. Friday
October 9th will be from 6:00-9:00pm and the Saturday October
10th class will be from 8:00am– 1:00pm with Lunch provided.
The
FCC Technician Class amateur radio license test will be
administered at 1:00pm.
- Classes
will cost $51.00 Includes Textbook, Lunch, and one Test
Session.
- Test
fee will be $14.00 due on the day of the class.
- Class
location will be at the Ouachita Parish Fire Training
Center, 1000 New Natchitoches, West Monroe.
SKYWARN Training Class Scheduled for September 19th
A
Skywarn Spotter Class will be held on Saturday, September
19th at 10 a.m. Location will be at the Ouachita Parish
Fire Training Center, 1000 New Natchitoches Road in West
Monroe, LA. This class is free and open to anyone wishing
to volunteer as a severe weather spotter for the National
Weather Service. Ham Radio Operators, first reponders, and
emergency management personnel are encouraged to attend
this valuable training opportunity.
